CHALLENGES

The development of ProjeX presented several key challenges that needed to be addressed to create a successful workforce and project management platform for the engineering and construction industries:

Our approach to developing ProjeX focused on creating a user-centric, scalable, and technically robust platform that addresses the unique needs of project-driven industries. We aimed to design a solution that not only streamlines project and workforce management but also enhances team collaboration and performance through intuitive design and powerful features.

Technical Overview

Modern Frontend Stack

Built with HTML5, CSS3, and SCSS (compiled into a main CSS file), while JavaScript (ES6+) and jQuery 3.7.1 handle client-side functionality and interactions.

Bootstrap 5 Responsive UI

Used Bootstrap 5 as the primary UI framework to deliver a responsive, consistent layout across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Interactive Library Ecosystem

Integrated Swiper.js, WOW.js, Animate.css, Magnific Popup, CounterUp + Waypoints, Parallaxie, MeanMenu, Nice Select, Select2, and Intl-Tel-Input to enhance UX, animations, navigation, forms, and visual effects.

HubSpot Forms API Integration

Form submissions are handled through the HubSpot Forms API via the Fetch API, with JavaScript intercepting the default PHP form action for a smoother client-side workflow.

Azure-Powered AI Chat Widget

The ProjeX chat widget is hosted on Azure Static Web Apps and connected to an Azure OpenAI backend to provide AI-driven responses.

Typography & Icon System

Implemented Font Awesome 6 for iconography and Google Fonts (DM Sans and Open Sans) to maintain clear, modern, and consistent visual communication.

Our Design Process

Our design process for ProjeX followed a structured approach that focused on creating a user-centric, scalable, and technically robust platform that addresses the unique needs of project-driven industries. We aimed to design a solution that not only streamlines project and workforce management but also enhances team collaboration and performance through intuitive design and powerful features.

Research and Discovery

We conducted detailed research on the target users, including engineers, architects, project managers, contractors, and consultants managing multiple ongoing projects. The key pain points identified were disconnected tools and spreadsheets causing information gaps, difficulty tracking time, project budgets, and staff workloads, and weak collaboration between office and on-site teams. Based on these findings, we defined a solution concept for a cloud-based platform that simplifies daily operations through better project visibility, streamlined task management, and integrated time tracking in one system.

Design Features

The user interface was built as a clean and professional dashboard with intuitive navigation. A left-hand menu provides quick access to Projects, My Timesheets, Tasks, and Profile Settings, and real-time updates across all pages improve usability and overall user experience.

Responsiveness

The platform is fully optimised for desktops, tablets, and mobile devices, ensuring a consistent experience across screen sizes. It is also accessible for remote and field teams, supporting continuous workflow visibility from any location.

The interface is supported by an in app help layer and an online User Guide for staff, makingonboarding simple and quick.
